The Faculty's 7am Routine: What happens inside the Meeting Room?
"A teacher's dedication is the amber that fuels the drive and passion of the students." As cliches as it is, the meaning of this notion appeared clearly right into my eyes in the four corners of the SMP UMP's Conference Room every 7 am in the morning. This habitual routine serves an as important ingredient in fueling the day-to-day educational journey of the school community. Behind the closed door, the humble faculty and administrative staffs huddle together as they crunch the numbers of school agenda; ranging from student-related reports and concerns, institutional activities, and other upcoming events, making sure that everything is in place and organized. Each of them— from a keen observer's point of view—also foster empathy as they become all ears in their colleague's stories regarding the teaching experiences and challenges they experiences. Inside, you will not only hear the reports being thrown objectively, but also the laughter and cries that cross each ears as they reestablish each others morale as educators. The short stint of 7 am routine —from what I witnessed—not only provides foundation to keep the pedagogical approaches of SMP UMP's achieve actuality, but also hones the interpersonal relationship of the people and its community. And it all goes down to the ambers that ignited silently inside that small room.
AN OBJECTIVE EVALUATION
The Morning Habit and Extracurricular Activities
The school provides supplementary programs that further give students assistance in developing their core skills. For instance, in English Subject, English teachers provide a program called " The Morning Habit", which is an additional review session for students facing some difficulties in understanding past lessons. These activities serve as interventions strategized to promote not only deeper understanding but also higher retention for the subject matter.
During Thursdays, students who are members of the English Club join the Extracurricular Activity which involves different output-based activities and group projects that develop their skills in different areas of the English Subject.
On Fridays, the boys from each grade levels attend an after-school scouting exercises which involves building practical life skills and leadership skills, and promoting the values of camaraderie, discipline, and confidence.
